NanoEduca awarded National Prize for Scientific Communication

The Government of Catalonia and the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRi) awarded the 2018 National Prize for Scientific Communication to the NanoEduca programme, a joint initiative of the University of Barcelona, the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Centre for Specific Teaching Resources in Support for Innovation and Research in Education (CESIRE) born with the objective of training secondary school teachers in nanoscience and nanotechnology and producing practical learning material to be used in the classroom.
 
Participating in the programme on behalf of the UAB are two nanoscience and nanotechnology lecturers, Dr Gemma Garcia from the Department of Physics as UAB coordinator and Dr Julia Lorenzo from the Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine as member of the working team.
 
The programme is divided into three complementary lines of action: teacher training; Nanokit (education suitcases available on loan by the Ministry for Education's Teaching Resources Centres); and yearly calls for posters and videos on nanotechnology.
 
Since 2015, the contents of the NanoEduca programme have reached over 6,000 students in more than 300 education centres, located mainly in Catalonia but also in the Basque Country, Madrid and Salzburg, Austria.
