Margarita Arboix awarded for her professional career at the Sepor d'Or Awards

Margarita Arboix, rector of the UAB and professor in veterniary pharmacology, received the Commitment Prize in this year's edition of the Sepor d'Or Awards, held as part of the National Farming, Industrial and Agri-food Fair. Arboix was awarded this dinstinction in recognition of her "professional career, undeniable commitment and contributions to the sector". The awards ceremony was held online on 27 October. Margarita Arboix's award was conferred onto her by Antonio Luengo, Minister for Water, Agriculture, Farming, Fishing and the Environment of the Government of Murcia.

The Sepor d'Or Awards, which are conferred onto people, businesses and institutions of the farming and agri-food sector, this year reach their fourth edition. They were created in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Sepor, the main national fair in this sector, which each year welcomes thousands of visitors and includes hundreds of national and international stands. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the fair is held online from 26 to 29 October.

Margarita Arboix holds a PhD in Biology. In 1976, she she joined the Department of Pharmacology at the UAB Faculty of Medicine and in 1985, she became a lecturer of the degree in Veterinary Medicine. She was Deputy Director General of Veterinary Medicines at the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products of the Ministry for Health and Consumer Affairs, and was also Director of Regional Health Services in Barcelona. She was appointed Director General for Agriculture and Husbandry of the Ministry for the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs. Since 2016, she is Rector of the UAB.
