It also wishes to remind the community of the vulnerability of the planet's poorer countries. These situations of vulnerability are also what explain the terrible effects natural catastrophes can have and the difficulties in facing the first phase of the emergency and the reconstruction phase.
Our university maintains collaboration ties with the Philippines. The UAB School for a Culture of Peace works in the field of peace construction and monitors negotiation processes. In the area of university collaboration in development, the current project being carried out is the “Diagnostics Tools for Global Health. BANT School”, an initiative from the Group of Sensors and Biosensors of the Department of Chemistry, with the support of the UAB Solidarity Fund of the Fundació Autònoma Solidària.
The devastating consequences of a natural disaster such as Typhoon Haiyan require immediate action aimed at providing first aid care, conducted by specialised entities and in a coordinated manner. To this effect, the Vice-Rectorate for Students and Cooperation of the UAB has made a donation of 2,000 Euros to Doctors Without Borders, thanks to the Solidarity Fund managed by the FAS. It also encourages the university community to donate whatever amount they can to organisations working on the reconstruction of the disaster area, such as Doctors Without Borders.
