On 24 and 25 November, the Auditorium (Sala d'Actes) of the Rectorat building hosted the seminar "News in the Digital Era", organised by the Observatori per a la Innovació dels Informatius a la Societat Digital (Oi2) belonging to RTVE, the UAB and the CEU San Pablo University. Journalists and other experts in communication reflected upon how current technological advances affect the information and work of journalists. The use of mobile devices is changing the way in which information is produced, distributed and consumed. Professional journalists are no longer the only ones to offer information and the sector's companies are in the process of adapting to this new reality.

The seminar was inaugurated on 24 November by Margarita Arboix, Rector of the UAB; Eladio Jareño, Director of TVE; and by Enrique Alejo, Director General at the RTVE Corporation. Following, there were several work sessions in which concepts such as mobile journalism, citizen journalism and "transmedia" development of audiovisual information were discussed. Members were also able to share experiences such as the dissemination of the Saló del Manga 2016.

Participating in the different debates, in addition to people from the academic sector, were representatives from several European public televisions, such as the Director of France 24 Marc Saikali and the Director for Innovation of the Irish public television station (RTÉ) Glen B. Mulcahy. The closing of the seminar took place at 2:30 p.m. on 25 November with a speech by María José Recorder, Dean of the Faculty of Communication Studies.

This was the second meeting on innovation in television news organised by this platform, which was created in 2015 to study the news and reflect upon its supports and formats and the evolution in technologies. This past 22 April, the UAB and Radio Television Española signed a collaboration agreement to create the Chair of Innovation in News in the Digital Society, directed by professor José Manuel Pérez Tornero, professor of the Department of Journalism and Communication Studies at the UAB.
