The Faculty of Translation and Interpreting of the UAB and the Centro de Língua Portuguesa (Camões Institute of Barcelona) announce a call for this award, which includes a cash prize of five thousand euros, to honour the figure of translator Giovanni Pontiero and to distinguish the author of a translation from Portuguese into Spanish or Catalan. In even-numbered years, this prize is awarded to the translation into Spanish of a literary work of any genre, originally written in Portuguese and published in the two years prior to its announcement. In odd-numbered years it is awarded to a translation into Catalan.

This award, now in its twenty-third year, is an ackowledgement of the best translations of Portuguese into Catalan and Spanish. The prize also pays tribute to the figure of Giovanni Pontiero (1932-1996), a Glasgow-born translator who taught Latin American literature at the University of Manchester for a long period of time. He was a prolific researcher, particularly in the field of Portuguese and Brazilian literary studies. He was also a translator of authors such as Clarice Lispector and José Saramago and won several international awards.

Translators or publishers interested in participating in the call must fill in a form and send the works (originals and translations) in paper or in digital format, although the organisation of the award prefers that the works arrive in paper format. The full details of this call can be consulted here.
