The seminar will also serve to hand out the awards to the best TGFs with SL, conferred onto students by the FAS in recognition of the top projects presented using SL methodology.

Service Learning (SL) is an educational proposal where students receive training through participation in a project aimed at solving a real need of a community, and thus, improve the living conditions of people or the quality of the environment.

Service Learning involves the identification of a social, environmental or cultural need, the intervention to solve this need and a process of reflection, allowing to connect practical experience with theoretical knowledge.

By participating in a SL project, students have the opportunity to engage in an experience that involves learning related to their academic curriculum, development of personal skills and a real service to the community.

The 5th SL Seminar will be inaugurated by Tatiana Rovira, vice rector of Studies and Teaching Innovation together with Olga Torres, dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpretation. Almost 200 people are expected to attend during different moments of the day, including students, teachers and organisations.

A round table discussion will be held from 9 to 11 a.m., entitled Com la sostenibilitat de les relacions professorat-entitats afecta la qualitat dels projectes ApS? [How does the sustainability of teacher-stakeholder relationships affect the quality of ApS projects?] Participants will include both members of organisations and UAB lecturers collaborating in SL projects. Eva Castells, SL representative of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, will be the moderator.

Speakers will include Anna Farrés, director of the Institut Escola Pia de l'Avellà in Cabrera de Mar; Albert Casals and Cristina Gonzàlez, professors of the Department of Musical, Plastic and Corporal Expression Didactics; Irene Fitera, technical staff at the Corbera de Llobregat City Council; Ana Barajas, coordinator of the subject using SL of Integrated Psychology Internships; and Sílvia Edo, teacher of the subject using SL of Integrated Psychology Internships.

At the same event, there will also be the presentation of the awards for the best TGFs with SL, an award that is convened annually by the UAB Solidarity Foundation (FAS), aimed at recognising the best final projects with SL methodology that have been carried out at the UAB. The list of winners can be consulted here

This will be followed by a session on Co-creation of SL projects, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., in which different entities and teachers will work together grouped by four themes: Health and Vulnerability with Sofia Mojica, technician of the Office of Challenges; Sustainability and Environment with Anna Soler, PDI at the department of BABVE; Global Justice with Òscar Redondo, technician of the Office of Challenges; and Education and Training with Xènia Gavaldà, technician of Cooperation and EpJG of the FAS. The activity will take place in classroom 004 and interpreting rooms 2 and 3 of the Faculty of Translation and Interpretation.
