The candidacy led by Estel Oleart Mariné won elections for the CEUAB’s Executive Committee (Comissió Executiva del Consell d’Estudiants de la UAB) by 28 votes. Electoral campaign started on 1 December and ended on 9 December. Two candidacies were submitted, one led by Estel Oleart Mariné (candidacy A) and El teu CEUAB (candidacy B), led by Gerard Sala Mayench, which got 11 votes.

Electronic voting took place from 10 to 12 December. There were 48 votes in total, with 2 blank votes and 7 null votes. Participation this year was 90.5 %, a 24.5 % more than in last year’s elections.

Oleart’s candidacy wants to carry out an improvement on the model of public university, which they currently consider elitist, anti-democratic, privatized and based on scientism. Thus, their programme revolves around ‘the acknowledgement and full sovereignty of students as active agents’ to accomplish ‘a truly public and high-quality Catalan university system’.

Also, to solve the students’ ignorance on internal structures, the candidacy suggests organizing continuous trainings in the institutional field. They also ask the UAB’s Board of Trustees, “the body with real power”, to not allow access to people linked to companies or capital interests. In order to fight privatization, the winning candidacy roots for a critical education ‘made by everyone and for everyone’ and ‘at the service of social and human transformation instead of being at the market’s disposal’.

To make UAB more accessible, comfortable and safe, they propose a series of economic measures such as a 30 % discount on tuition fees, a balance in the prices of master studies and bachelor degrees and watching over the effective application of the protocol against sexist aggressions. They also demand university to promote defending freedom of speech, for it to take a stand against repression and for it to also demand freedom for political prisoners as well as the return of those who are exiled.
