The presentation in Östersund highlights the decisive role of universities in protecting athlete mental health and ensuring sustainable dual career pathways.

Miquel Torregrossa, Professor of Sport Psychology and Director of the Sports Research Institute (IRE-UAB), participated as a keynote speaker at the FISU World Forum 2026, held in Östersund, Sweden. The international university meeting, organized under the theme "Active Body Healthy Mind: How Impactful Sport can be at Universities", brought together world-leading specialists across sport governance, health, education, and institutional leadership.

Within the thematic track dedicated to dual career friendly universities, Miquel delivered the lecture "The Promotion of Mental Health in Dual Career Friendly Universities". The session presented findings from research conducted by the Sport Psychology Research Group (GEPE) and several Erasmus+ European projects on mental health and dual career pathways. It analyzed both the benefits and the academic and sporting stressors faced by high-performance student-athletes.

The presentation emphasized the need to build comprehensive preventive and proactive support systems on university campuses, introducing practical intervention tools such as the mountaineering expedition metaphor for elite athletes and mental health literacy workshops. This participation reinforces UAB's leadership as an international benchmark in holistic support, wellbeing, and sustainable pathways for student-athletes.
