First Meeting of the Ibero-American Network of Olympic Studies Centers
Last November 2025, the first meeting of the Ibero-American Network of Olympic Study and Research Centers was held, promoted by the Olympic Studies Centre of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (CEO-UAB).
This international cooperation platform aims to strengthen research and the dissemination of Olympic values in Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries
The session, held in a virtual format, brought together representatives from numerous Ibero-American Olympic Studies Centers and included the participation of Núria Puig and Julien Buhajezuk, Managers of Academic Programmes at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Olympic Studies Centre. During the meeting, recognition was given to Núria Puig for her drive and continuous support to the centers, and an official welcome was extended to Julien Buhajezuk. The initiative seeks to promote academic cooperation, research, and the dissemination of Olympic Studies among Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries.
Dr. Clemencia Anaya Maya, Secretary General of the Pan-Iberian Association of Olympic Academies, presented the paper "Olympism, Language, Common Culture, and Peace," and Raúl Chapado, President of the Royal Spanish Olympic Academy, presented "Olympic Studies and Culture as a Builder of a Space for Collaboration."
Key proposals emerging from the meeting include the organization of the First Virtual Congress of Ibero-American Olympic Studies Centers, the creation of a Collaborative Network for Young Researchers, new research lines on Olympism and technology, and the invitation to publish articles on Olympic topics in the scientific journal Citius, Altius, Fortius from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
