Emilio Fernández Peña, invited speaker in Colombia and Organizer of the Olympism Conference

Emilio Fernández, an honorary member of the Colombian Olympic Academy, has reinforced international cooperation regarding Olympism and peace in Colombia.

The IRE researcher, Emilio Fernández Peña, has been an invited speaker at the "Olimpismo, Comunicación y Paz" Congress, organized by the Colombian Olympic Academy and the Escuela Nacional del Deporte in Cali. Simultaneously, he delivered a talk to students/es at the Colegio Agustín Fernández in Bogotá and served as an invited professor for the diploma in Olympism and Communication. This second edition of the international congress served as a platform to reflect on the social value of sports and its transformative power, addressing current topics such as Olympic legacy, sports tourism, and storytelling in modern communication.

Under the title “Comunicando los Juegos Olímpicos,” Emilio's intervention in Cali delved into the importance of the Olympic message, sharing the program with experts/es who analyzed everything from the ethics of Artificial Intelligence to social responsibility in journalism. Along with these invited lectures, the Centre d’Estudis Olímpics of the IRE-UAB co-organized the Olympic Day at the Colegio Agustín Fernández in Bogotá. This public school works intensively with sports and Olympism as a tool for social cohesion and personal growth for its students/es, becoming a model for the practical application of the Academy's values.

These interventions highlight the IRE's role in promoting Olympic culture and peace through sports across the Hispanic-American region, bridging academic research with direct intervention in the educational community. The visit concluded by strengthening institutional ties, emphasizing a commitment to sports communication that fosters equality and social development in diverse environments.
