The ASOME research group resumes archaeological excavations at La Bastida six years after the discovery of an impressive fortification system which surrounded the city some 4,000 years ago. The new excavation campaign is funded by a grant from the National Geographic Society.
The cafeteria of the Social Sciences Library will open on weekends (19, 20, 26 and 27 May and 2, 3, 9 and 10 June), and on Monday 21 May (public holiday). The café will be open from 9:30 a.m.to 5:30 p.m.

As partof its 50ty annivesary celebrations, the UAB has decided to award five honorary doctorates to experts from different fields of knowledge: Caddy Adzuba, Marie-Paule Kieny, Jaume Plensa, Joaquim Mª Puyal and Lisa Randall.
Candidates have until 18 May to submit their applications to the call for emeritus and honorary titles for teaching staff in the 2018/19 academic year. Departments and institutes can present applications for professors who have already retired and fulfil all requirements stated in the call details.
A research team made up of the UAB, the MAC and the IMF-CSIC confirms the use of fungi to light or transport fire at la Draga some 7300 years ago. It is one of the oldest examples documented until now of the technological use of these organisms.
