"Viure i Conviure" offers students a novel lodging opportunity

The Fundació Roure launches the "Viure i Conviure" programme in order to help two different groups of people: university students needing economic housing options and elderly people living alone. The UAB participates in the programme.

The UAB participates in the Viure i Conviure (Live and Co-live) programme, an initiative providing lodging in the homes of elderly people who live alone or are in need of company. This project is therefore an economic alternative for students with a tight budget to live in the metropolitan area of Barcelona.

The programme is being launched by the Fundació Roure and encourages a mutual support-based co-living philosophy in which the student, in addition to solving the problem of where to live, can also contribute to preventing social isolation in an elderly person, and in that way foster their independence. It is also a way to facilitate contact between two generations.

Students are required to be 30 years old or less (35 years old in the case of graduate students), enrolled in university studies that do not have residencies in the same city, and who can remain in the same home at least one academic year. With regard to those offering their homes, they must be at least 65 years old, preferibly live alone, with a well-conditioned home and physically and mentally able to carry out daily tasks independently.

All those interested in participating can find more information on the Fundació Roure website or contact members of the programme by phone at 93 742 09 87 and by e-mail at viureiconviure@fundacioroure.org.
