Universities and Parliament sign a new collaboration agreement

Les universitats i el Parlament signen un nou conveni de col·laboració
Every year, the University Parliament Week invites students to discover the tasks done by parliament members and other people working within the chamber. Now, the universities have signed a new agreement with the Parliament of Catalonia to continue working jointly in this and other initiatives.

The Parliament of Catalonia and twelve public universities signed on 3 May a new collaboration agreement to continue contributing to the progress in science, technology, the humanities and arts, as well as to the dissemination of culture and the development of society. UAB Rector Margarita Arboix participated in the event.

The agreement renews older agreements from 2011 and 2014, which included student participation in the University Parliament Week, an activity offered by the parliament in which students take on tasks carried out by members of parliament and other members of the chamber, such as working on proposing and voting laws. The universities also participate in workshops and special visits organised by the parliament, as well as taking part in academic placements and administration tasks.

The new agreement guarantees a continuity to these activities and sets down the bases for collaborations in other areas: participation of lecturers and students in common projects, collaboration in scientific and educational documents, improvement stays for both students and university staff, and parliament academic placements, among others. The agreement also stipulates that "universities must academically acknowledge students and lecturers participating in jointly organised courses and activities".
