DesignCurial analysed thousands of universities around the world to compile its ranking of The World's 10 Best Green Universities , based on sustainable architecture, the use of innovative "green" technologies, and other ecological initiatives taken by higher education institutions.

The journal highlights the “bioclimatic outer skin” of the ICTA-ICP building, which allows controlling the temperature in the interior and reduces energy consumption up to 62%, while maintaining temperatures indoors between 16ºC and 30ºC; and its water consumption, which is 90% less than other similar constructions.

In order to receive first place, the journal also considered that the UAB achieves to regulate the temperature of its buildings in a "natural manner, by saving energy, improving temperatures indoors and controlling levels of humidity".

In the classification of the 10 most ecological universities in the world, the UAB is followed by the University of California, Los Angeles, and the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

In the past twenty years, the UAB has strived to promote and conserve the natural environment, saving water and energy, and applying ecological criteria to all requests for tender, management of water, and in many other sectors of the university.
