UAB's Year of Chemistry comes to a close

14/10/2011
On display are various everyday objects with explanations on the role played by chemistry in creating and using these objects. Correctly used, chemistry is an essential contribution to the welfare of society. The exhibit was organised by the UAB Department of Chemistry, Cultura en Viu (Live Culture), the Deixalleria (Collection and Storage Depot) and DXS, and was under the direction of Ramon Alibés and Gregori Ujaque, lecturers of the Department of Chemistry.
The exhibit marks the end of UAB's thematic year coinciding with the International Year of Chemistry 2011, an initiative authored by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) and UNESCO, and passed by the General Assembly of the United Nations. During the past academic year and all 2011, the university has organised a series of conferences and activities related to the field of chemistry. The Year of Chemistry will give way to the Year of Participation, which coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Faculty of Political Sciences and Sociology and will last until the end of 2012.
