The Informatics Institute of the Middle East Technical University, in Turkey, publishes a yearly ranking of 2000 higher education institutions worldwide: the University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP). This ranking is based on universities' academic performance, as shown by the quality and quantity of their academic publications.

Several indicators are used to classify the universities: scientific production, measured in terms of articles published; research impact, in accordance with the number of citations received by the ISI-indexed articles published in the previous five years; sustainability and continuity in scientific production, calculated from the total amount of academic literature, including papers, reviews, letters, discussions and scripts; the impact factor of the journals in which research papers were published; and the degree of international collaboration, based on the number of joint publications with foreign universities.

The UAB is in 150th place worldwide and second place in Spain, after the UB, having moved up 4 places since the previous edition of the ranking. It is given a score of A+ (the maximum score is A++), with 339 points out of a possible 600 on the indicators. The UAB's score on collaboration is particularly high, with 54.18 points out of a possible 90.
