UAB Festa Major receives for the second time the Segell Q de Festa! quality mark

Last November 7th it was held the UAB Festa Major. This year its slogan was “Climate emergency: UAB takes action!” This event has a long tradition of more than 30 years and it features a large influx of people and student participation. Bellaterra campus gets full of student stalls, musical performance and cultural, charity and sport activities, where more than 24.000 people gather.
This is the second year that the party receives the Segell Q de festa! quality mark. This is a project led by the Sub-Directorate-General for Drug Dependence of the Public Health Agency. It recognizes leisure spaces that count on a set of resources and services related with health, wellbeing and quality that aim to reduce risks due to drugs consumptions, such as intoxication or car accidents. At present, in Catalonia there are 65 spaces with this quality mark and two University Parties.
The UAB Festa Major 2019 with the slogan “Climate emergency: UAB takes action!” meet the quality mark requirements and features a drugs information and risks reduction stand, free access to fresh water, food availability, ear plugs and detailed information about the nearest public transports. It also offers an attention point for sexual violence. As new feature, it has been established a free service of Breathalyzer for driver. Moreover, to improve the environmental management, along with some initiatives such as a green point specifically created for the event, glass exchange points for plastic bottles, in this edition pocket ashtrays have been distributed to reduce the wastes.
Furthermore, 1000 students (two responsible for each of the 42 stalls) has attended a two hours training about responsible distribution of alcohol and they offer at least one nonalcoholic cocktail in each stall. This course is part of the 4 hours training that the UAB carries out for the students in charge of a stall in the fields of health, security, emergency and environment.
The quality mark is also a recognition to the effort done by the Technical Committee on Cross-Cutting Work, which is composed by different professional departments, areas and services and on which depends the specific committee “Festa Q”. Community Involvement Unit, Fundació Autònoma Solidària foundation and UAB Health Care Service.
This line of work in university leisure complements and expands the work that has been carried out on the UAB campus for years, through the Health Program of the Fundació Autònma Solidaria foundation, that promotes healthier lifestyles and is aimed to campus students. Last year, nearly 2.000 students participated in training and awareness-raising activities of this programme.
