UAB awarded its first Erasmus Mundus European Doctorate

Degree in Law, Science and Technology
The UAB Institute of Law and Technology, at the Faculty of Law, is the first to become a member of an Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate programme. It was one of the 10 selected from among 140 proposals presented. There are only 34 Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate programmes in Europe and are the leading programmes in their area of speciality.

The Joint International Doctoral (Ph.D.) Degree in Law, Science and Technology includes three areas and offers three possible specialisations: Bioethics and Biolaw, legal and ethical problems encountered in the fields of biology, genetics and medicine; ITC Law, focusing on new legal challenges posed by the internet and new forms of regulation of Webs 2.0 and 3.0 (intellectual property, privacy, etc.); and Legal Informatics, dealing with computer applications and artificial intelligence within the legal field (legal XML, semantic web, MAS, etc.)

The doctoral degree will be awarded jointly by the UAB and the universities of Bologna,  Turin and Mykolas Romeris, Lithuania (with the participation of the new University of Luxembourg). The doctoral programme includes several technological park, business and research institute members of the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (IIIA-CSIC) and industrial partners such as IBM and Ascamm Technologic Centre.

The UAB Faculty of Law will be welcoming the programme's first students in September 2012. The pre-registration period is open until 11 February 2012.
The selection process will take place during the second half of February.
