President of the UAB Social Council Gabriel Masfurroll and Assistant to the Vice Rector for International Relations Maria Teresa Paramio visited the Beijing Noirmal University to prepare new collaborations between the two institutions regarding the mobility of students and academic staff, as well as training in a variety of academic areas.

The Beijing Normal University is one of China's most prestigious higher education institutions, standing out specifically in the field of education sciences. According to the QS World University Ranking, it ranks 27th among the universities of the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa). A collaboration with this university would represent a strengthening of the synergies the UAB has with educational and research centres located in China.

The visit of the UAB delegation, made possible thanks to the contacts established by the Samaranch foundation, paves the way to exploring the specifics of future collaborations both in education studies (with an emphasis on improving the English and Spanish spoken by Chinese lecturers and improving the Chinese spoken by UAB lecturers) and in other academic areas: geography, environmental science, the management of smart cities and sports. In this latter field, in which the Samaranch Foundation also plays a prominent role, Masfurroll and Paramio presented academic and research projects being conducted at the UAB's Sport Research Institute, a leading centre in this sector. The UAB delegation also presented a project currently being developed with the involvement of the UAB entitled Project STICK (Sport and Academic Talent Integration through Exchange Programmes in Hockey), in which elite athletes are accompanied while studying at university and participating in mobility programmes.
