The UAB to celebrate Sant Jordi with cultural and leisure activities

10/04/2014
The UAB Colla de Bastoners will be in charge of officially starting the day's activities. Stands will be set up at the Plaça Cívica by student associations, and several university services and programmes. At the Observatory for Equality stand visitors will learn about the stereotypes behind the legend of the dragon killed by Saint George; and on a day when books are the main stars, how women have contributed to literature with their writing.
As part of Autònoma Actua, the pop-rock group Insiders will be offering a concert. The Languages Service will be offering a public reading of the book The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry in different languages. The cultural activities will continue with a dance performance by the Aula de Dansa, under the direction of dancer and choreographer Carles Salas, and melodies by the jazz-funk band Combo from the UAB's Aula de Música, directed by David Muñoz.
SOLIDARITY LUNCH AGAINST FOOD WASTE
Among the activities there will be a conference on food wastage, as a prelude to the 2nd UAB Solidarity Lunch, which will begin at 2 pm. After last year's success, this initiative had to be present this year.
The lunch will be free for everyone and prepared with food in good conditions, but that cannot be sold. The food will be donated by the Mercavallès wholesale market, organised by a group of volunteers by the UAB Solidarity Foundation (FAS) and the Environmental Office. A food drive will also be held during the day, with all donations going to the Food Bank Foundation. Volunteers are needed for this activity. If you are interested in participating, please fill out the form at the following link: Voluntariat dinar solidari.
At 3 pm the Students' Associations and Representatives Network will award prizes for the best short stories and photographs on exchange experiences. Prizes for the best erotic stories, organised by the FAS health programme, will also be handed out.
The castellers group Colla de Ganàpies will close the Sant Jordi celebrations with a traditional human tower performance.
