The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona will celebrate International Dance Day on Wednesday 29 April with a performance at the Plaça Cívica. The event will take place at 1:30 p.m. and is open to all of the university community.
The event will present two contemporary dance pieces that showcase the value of emerging creations and artistic proposals connected to the University.
The first piece is entitled At this very moment, performed by the UAB Contemporary Dance Group (level 2) and directed by choreographer Laia Santanach. In this performance, nine dancers will explore daily situations happening all at the same time and in the same place. The choreography uses the loop concept as a metaphor of experiences and actions humans often repeat unconsciously, as a way of questioning human nature and the tendency to trip over the same stone more than once.
The second piece, Pies de gallina, directed and choreographed by Ana F. Melero and Luna Sánchez, will be performed by professional dancers Clàudia Bosch and Luna Sánchez herself. The work explores the bond between two women, placing the balance between sustaining and collapsing at the centre of the experience. Inspired by expressions such as “having goosebumps” (piel de gallina in Spanish) and “walking with leaden feet” (pies de plomo), the piece explores the delicate boundary between the sensitive and the rational, weaving a relationship of support and vulnerability between the two bodies on stage.
With this event, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona reaffirms its commitment to celebrating culture and the performing arts, bringing dance closer to the entire community in an open, shared and participatory space.
The play At this very moment, directed by Laia Santanach, will also be available in theatre format, with free admission, on Wednesday 13 May at the UAB Theatre Hall, with two performances at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. This new presentation invites the public to delve deeper into the stage proposal and discover a version adapted to the theatre space.
