The UAB to attend the UN World Summit on the Information Society
The research group TransMedia Catalonia and the AccessCat Network will play a leading role in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), which will take place from 7 to 11 July in Geneva, Switzerland. The summit is organised by the main UN agencies, such as the ITU, UNICEF and UNESCO.

The WSIS aims to ensure global digital cooperation to build inclusive, people-centered and development-oriented information and knowledge societies. In this year's edition, the TransMedia Catalonia group (UAB) and the AccessCat Network (coordinated by the UAB and member of the ITU), have organised the session "Media and Education for All: Bridging Female Academic Leaders and Society towards Impactful Results".
The session will explore women's leadership in research through projects related to media and education that contribute to building an inclusive society that can guarantee the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participating will be UAB researchers Anna Matamala, who will present the results of the ENACT project, focusing on easy news: news content written with a more comprehensive and inclusive language that ensures access to information for people who experience barriers in traditional media, such as people with intellectual disabilities or migrants; Pilar Orero, director of TransMedia Catalonia, who will present the results of the MOSAIC project, a cutting-edge and innovative research on the use of artificial intelligence to improve accessibility and make AI-based services available regardless of the diverse needs of users, and Estela Oncins, who will talk about the InclusiVRity project, which uses virtual reality to promote and educate about inclusivity in the classroom.
In addition, Pilar Orero will participate in a parallel session on sustainable, accessible and inclusive smart cities with experts from around the world. She will also be part of the AI for Good global summit, focused on the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence, which will take place almost simultaneously with the WSIS, between 8 and 11 July. At the same time, the research group will be present at the stand of the AccessCat Network (research results transfer network funded by AGAUR and the first R+D+i network in social sciences and humanities funded by the Government of Catalonia) to transfer its research in an international showcase with the presence of governments, policy-makers and global institutions.
The session will also be streamed live, but prior registration is required.
