The UAB Solidarity Race to be held on 18 December

The UAB and the Cerdanyola del Vallès City Council, with the collaboration and support of the University of Barcelona and Applus+ Laboratories, organise for 18 December the 2022 Solidarity Race and Walk to help raise funds for the yearly fundraiser La Marató de TV3, which this year focuses on cardiovasculara health. This is the 11th edition of a race in which the UAB campus turns into a huge solidarity sports festival.

One of the novelties in this 11th edition is the participation of the UAB's human tower group, "Els Ganàpies".

All money collected through the solidarity race organised by the UAB and the Cerdanyola del Vallès City Council, with the collaboration and support of the University of Barcelona and Applus+ Laboratories, will go towards research into cardiovascular health, the subject of this year's fundraiser La Marató de TV3. The UAB is conducting relevant research in this field and considers it of vital importance to raise awareness among society of the need to cooperate and obtain resources to prevent cardiovascular diseases and continue with further research.

For the first time, the University of Barcelona (UB) will also participate in the organisation of the race and thus contribute to raising funds for La Marató de TV3.

In this 11th edition of the solidarity race participants will be able to sign up for the 11.7 km race, the 6 km race or walk, the 500 m children's race and a 500 m reduced mobility race (those interested can sign up here).

As every year, the starting and finish line will be at the Vila Universitària. The long race will pass by the Alba Light Synchrotron and the centre of Cerdanyola de Vallès. All participants will receive a free technical T-shirt and will have a safe place to leave their belongings before the race and refreshments after the race. Participants will also be able to take advantage of the UAB's physiotherapy students, who will be offering free massages at the finish line.

This year's edition includes for the first time a children's race and the participation of the UAB castellers, human tower builders. There will also be musical performances by the UAB's brass band and a solidarity fair at the Vila Universitària.

Primary and secondary schools of Cerdanyola del Vallès and Bellaterra will also be participating in this 11th edition.

The organisers of the event would like to invite anyone interested to volunteer in the preparation and organisation of the race itself. Those interested can sign up using the form at the volunteer section of the UAB Solidarity Race website.

Some 2,000 people participate each year

In the 10th edition of the race, held last year, a total of 18,350 euros were raised. Before the pandemic, in 2019, a total of 2,280 people participated. The record of people participating was 2,450. Thousands of people have participated in these 10 editions of the race, and their sportive and supportive spirit has helped to conduct research into the different areas chosen each year by La Marató de TV3. In these ten years, the UAB race has helped to raise almost 190,000 euros, all of which has been donated to the TV3 fundraiser.
