The UAB rises in the SCImago research performance rankings

The SIR evaluations are considered to be the most complete classification of institutions in terms of research results. The ranking focuses on scientific publications from the past five years and only takes into account institutions (universities and research centres) which, in the past year, produced a minimum of 100 researches included in the Scopus database, the largest database in the world.

In this year's ranking, which focuses on the 2007-2011 period, the UAB improves its score, not only in global parameters, but also among the centres analysed in the specific area of Western Europe, in which it scored 66. With regard to institutions in Spain, the UAB ranks third and is only surpassed by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Barcelona.

In general, the UAB obtained better scores in the majority of parameters analysed by the SIR related to different aspects of research quality and impact. Citations increased in relation to the global average (normalised impact scores); the amount of scientific production included in 10% of the works with most citations within their respective areas; and the number of research articles in which UAB scientists are the lead author. The ranking also acknowledges the UAB's level of internationalisation by registering a rise in the percentage of scientific production published in collaboration with foreign institutions.
