The UAB returns to the YoMo with engineering, robotics and quantum technology workshops

YoMo2019
The UAB will be present at the next edition of the “Youth Mobile Festival Barcelona” held from 26 February to 2 March to promote technologies among the young audiences. Attending will be the School of Engineering and the Department of Physics' Optics Group who will offer demonstrations in robotics and technology workshops.

YoMo, taking place at the La Farga exhibition fair in L'Hospitalet, was designed to bring classroom learning out into the real world, through the demonstration of professional opportunities of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) sector.

The UAB participates through its School of Engineering and the Deparment of Physics' Optics Group, which will be attending as part of the COST AtomQT (Quantum Technologies with Ultracold Atoms) action.

At the stand of the School of Engineering (AP117) visitors will be able to see a sample of robots (robotic fae, hands, quadruped robots, sprinter robots, etc.) and video games designed by the School's students, who will explain how they function, were designed and programmed.

The Optics Group (stand 102) will organise an interactive workshop: "From Quantum Physics to Quantum Technologies", in which visitors will explire different phenomena related to quantum mechanics and which form the basis of quantum technologies. The stand will offer two section: simulation and experimentation. In the first section visitors will be able to play with simulations of quantum phenomena comparing them with experiences from everyday life. In the second section, attendants will experiment with classic interface phenomena, observing the ondulating behaviour and reflecting upon the differences between waves and particles, one of the classic debates of quantum physics. At the end of the workshop students will be able to programme new simulations, They will also receive information on how to reproduce some of these experiments at home or at their education centres.

The YoMo, aimed at children aged 10 to 16, will form part of the GSMA Mobile World Congress. This year's edition expects more than 22,000 adolescents and teachers. Entrance is free for all pre-registered school groups.

The event also includes the collaboration of local, regional and European entities, including the Generalitat de Catalunya, industrial organisations and professional institutions.
