The UAB ranks among the top 100 in 12 disciplines according to the QS by Subject Rankings

The UAB improves its position in all five areas of knowledge, and now ranks among the top 100 universities worldwide in 12 subjects, three more than in last year's edition.

The 2022 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject places the UAB among the top 100 universities worldwide in 12 different disciplines: Anatomy & Physiology, Anthropology, Agriculture & Forestry, Archaeology, Economics and Econometrics, Education, Geography, Hospitality & Leisure Management, Modern Languages, Linguistics, Sociology, and Veterinary Science. Of these subjects, it is worth highlighting that the UAB improves its position in Economics and Econometrics, going from position 88 to 58; Sociology, moving up from 78 to 56; and Agriculture & Forestry, which passes from the 101 to 150 section, to position 82. Veterinary Science continues to be one of the best positioned subjects in absolute terms and this year ranks in position 23, moving up one point from last year's position.

In addition, the UAB ranks in the 101 to 200 top universities section in 23 other subjects included in this year's QS subjects. With regards to its position within Spanish unviersities, the UAB finds itself positioned among the three top universities in 31 subjects, and ranks first in Linguistics, Veterinary Science, Geography, Anthropology and Sociology.

The classification highlights the UAB's evolution in the 39 disciplines included in the QS ranking: the university improves its position in 54% of disciplines, and 36% maintain the same position as in last year's edition, while only 10% lose points.

With regards to the five large areas of knowledge, the UAB improves its position in all of them. The university thus ranks 108 in Arts & Humanities (up from 152), 117 in Natural Sciences (127), 92 in Social Sciences (126), 133 Life Sciences and Medicine (145), and 212 in Engineering and Technology (217).

Since 2011, the QS publishes its yearly QS World University Rankings by Subjects. This ranking, which was launched after the QS World University Ranking, classifies universities in 51 different subjects with the aim of helping future students identify top universities according to their field of interest. The total number of universities varies according to the subject, with 2,574 universities classified in Art & Design, and 487 in Library & Information Management, with representation from over 160 countries. This year, QS incorporates a new indicator exclusively for the five large areas, called the International Research Network (IRN), as a measure of an institution's stable research relations.
