The UAB is sad to announce the death of Olga Torres
Olga Torres Hostench, lecturer in the department of Translation and Interpreting & East Asian Studies and until recently also dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting, passed away on 5 July 2025. The UAB wishes to extends its most heartfelt condolences to her family and friends and all those who knew and loved her, and expresses its sadness in losing a member of its community.
Olga Torres was dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting from June 2022 until this past June, when she was substituted by lecturer Simona Škrabec.
Olga Torres earned her degree in Translation and Interpreting from the UAB in 1994, and in 2007 she was awarded an extraordinary award for her PhD in Translation Theory with a thesis on job placement training for translation postgraduates. Before lecturing at the UAB, she was a digital contents translator for several European and American companies.
Torres was coordinator of the university master's degree in Tradumatics: Translation Technologies, and of the SGR Tradumàtica research group, and in the past 20 years she had been actively involved in several state and European research projects on translation and technologies. She was also the principal investigator of four Spanish research projects on translation technologies, the last one being the MultitraiNMT European project on machine translation.
