The Knowledge and Development (CYD) Foundation presented today the results of the seventh edition of its CYD Ranking, the Spanish ranking with the greatest number of universities participating. The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona has scored the highest points possible in 28 of the ranking's 37 indicators and ranks in first position, followed by the University of Barcelona and the University of Navarra.

The classification groups these indicators into five "dimensions": teaching and learning, research, international orientation, contribution to regional development and knowledge transfer.

Of the nine indicators evaluated in teaching and learning, the UAB obtained a top score in six: bachelor's degree graduation index, bachelor's degree regulatory graduation index, master's degree regulatory graduation index, bachelor's degree performance index, master's degree performance index and bachelor's degree success index. In research, the UAB obtained the highest score in 6 of the 9 indicators analysed: external attraction of talent, external funding, publications per lecturer, normalised impact, highly cited publications, and postdoctoral researchers.

In knowledge transfer, the UAB receives the highest score in all eight indicators evaluated: private funding, publications in private enterprises, patents per lecturer, patents with private companies, income per licence, spin-offs, cited patent publications and income for continuous training; Six out of seven of the international orientation indicators also elevate the UAB to the top performance group: programmes offered in a foreign language, student mobility, international teaching staff, work placements abroad, PhDs by foreign students and international publications.

Finally, the UAB obtains a maximum score in 2 of the 4 indicators in contribution to regional development: work placements in surrounding businesses and regional publications.

In this seventh edition, the CYD Ranking has grown in areas of knowledge (25) and academic programmes (2,925), publishing the results of a total of 76 universities: 48 state-run and 28 privately-run institutions.

The data included in the CYD Ranking stems from a variety of sources with the aim of offering the largest amount of information possible: data provided by the universities, data from the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, bibliometric data and patent information.

The Knowledge and Development (CYD) Foundation, founded in December 2002 with a university and business vision, aims mainly to analyse and foster the contribution of universities to the economic and social development of the country, as well as to broaden the ties between universities and businesses.
