The UAB hosts the first scientific and cultural Euroregion meeting

From 8 to 10 April, the UAB will be hosting the first meeting on the scientific, cultural and multilingual collaborations of the Pyrenees-Mediterranean Euroregion (an institutional cooperation project between Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, and the French region of Occitania). The meeting unites researchers and research centres from both sides of the Pyrenees and will include different cultural activities.

This meeting aims to promote scientific cooperation between French and local universities, as well as provide the opportunity to discover more about the French language and culture. The Pyrenees-Mediterranean Euroregion's universities committee will be in charge of studying through this pilot programme the most adequate formula for future similar encounters at other universities. In addition to the UAB and the Euroregion, the meeting has been organised by the French Consulate in Barcelona, the French Institute and the Interuniversity Council of Catalonia.

The meeting is addressed to students, lecturers and researchers from the UAB and other universities, as well as to secondary school students, especially those studying under the Batxibac programme (allowing them to have a Catalan secondary school diploma and a French baccalauréat). Participation is free and the activities will take place mainly at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

With regard to conferences, on 8 April participants are invited to a conference on the Maghrebian culture and on the writer Tahar Ben Jelloun. On 9 April, a debate will take place on the Horizon Europe programme and the opportunies offered in the Euroregion. And on 10 April, the closing conference, entitled "Demain, la francophonie", will be given by Xavier North, former General Delegate of French and the languages of France at the French Ministry for Culture.

There will also be talks on issues such as the French university system and the main lines of reseaerch conducted at the universities of the Euroregion. In addition, meetings will take place between research groups from different academic areas (engineering, sustainable development, smart cities, law, philology and translation) and visits to some of the research centres and institutes located on the UAB campus. With regard to cultural activities, the Cinema Hall at the Plaça Cívica will offer a French film cycle.
