The UAB Ecologist Assembly took part in the mobilization against the COP

The UAB Ecologist Assembly comes back satisfied from the Social Summit for Climate, which is a gathering organized by different ecologist movements that lines up against the COP. The representatives of the Assembly, along with other organisations from all across the country, participate in actions to protest for how the COP has ignored the problems of the indigenous people.

A group of UAB students, members of the Ecologist Assembly, has taken part in the Social Summit for Climate. In this gathering, the attendants denounced that the COP deals are not being respected.

Maria, a student of Political Science and a member of the Assembly, was one of the people who went to Madrid on a nine-hour train journey. She said that “we have to sympathize with the rural populations, where it does not exist a good transport service”. In the capital city, they participate in demonstrations and they attended different talks, besides volunteering at the summit.

This summit was created to oppose the COP, where the problems of the indigenous people were faded into the background. “The difference is that Social Summit for Climate is organized by civil society”, Maria stated.

In this way, The Ecologist Assembly highlights once again an underlying problem, during a year when “more and more people are joining the movement”, she said.  Currently, the number of students who are joining the assembly has significantly increased. It has never counted that many members since it was created, five years ago.

From now on, the UAB Ecologist Assembly is preparing new events to highlight global movements, like this one, in the university community. It should be noted that this year the UAB presents the climate emergency as one important fight to closely follow.
