The United Arab Emirates's consulting organisation Center World University Rankings (CWUR) recently presented the 2020 edition of its ranking of the best universities in the world. The UAB ranks in 196th position and is second among Spanish universities, behind the University of Barcelona, which occupies the 133rd position. The classification places the UAB in position 140 worldwide in research production and gives it an overal score of 78.8 points.

The ranking is led by Harvard University, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Stanford University, all three found in the USA.

The CWUR evaluates 20,000 higher education centres, and this therefore places the UAB within the 1% of top universities in the world. To measure the position of each centre, it evaluated seven different indicators: the quality of teaching, measures by the relative number of students obtaining international distinctions (25% of the final evaluation); graduate employment, measured by the relative number of students currently occupying managerial positions in large companies (25%); the quality of lecturing staff, measured by the number of academics who have won international prizes (10%); number of articles published (10%); number of articles appearing in top-tier journals (10%); number of articles appearing in high-impact journals (10%); and, finally, the number of most-cited research articles (10%).
