The resolution creating the Institut d'Història de la Ciència (IHC)
The objective of the IHC is to organize, promote and develop, from a multidisciplinary perspective, research in the field of History of Science studies, as well as to promote training programs in this specialty.
The creation of the Institut d'Història de la Ciència (IHC) entails the extinction of the Centre d'Història de la Ciència (CEHIC), but the IHC assumes the knowledge, experience and projection and International relations of the years of activity of the CEHIC, thus as well as the research groups and research staff that carry out research, training and knowledge transfer in the field of History of Science.

Since the creation, in 1983, of the Seminari d’Història de les Ciències, until its transformation into the Centre d’Estudis d’Història de les Ciències (1995) and its formation as a study and research center, the CEHIC has consolidated as a fundamental piece in research, teaching and dissemination of the history of science, technology and medicine in the country. His tasks range from historical research and teaching in the different university cycles, to various activities related to the discipline, such as the conservation of scientific heritage and the promotion of public dialogue on issues related to contemporary science. Now as an Institute, The IHC takes over in order to consolidate itself as a fundamental nucleus of teaching, research and dissemination of the history of science in Catalonia and in the State, with international projection.
The Institut d'Història de la Ciència Institute of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona Autonomous was approved on February 8, 2018 by the UAB Governing Council and its creation was officially published in the Diari Oficial de la Generalitat de Catalunya on September 30, 2020.
