The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) and the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) have named Dr Freixes Senior Expert for Spain for a four-year period. Three other members of her research group will also form part of the selected team: Mercè Sales, Eva Poptcheva and Francesc Mancilla, all of them professors of Constitutional Law at UAB.

FRA and EIGE chose a network made up of 27 teams, formed by one group of experts, jurists and sociologists from each EU member state. In the case of Spain, Dr Freixes will be directing the group in charge of researching and drawing up the reports on fundamental rights and gender equality according to the work plan agreed on by the two agencies. Researchers from other Spanish entities will also be participating, such as Movement for Peace (MPDL), National University for Distance Education (UNED), the Office for Social Studies and the European Institute of Law.

The FRA agency's mission is to compile legal and sociological data, detect good practices, adopt recommendations, carry out studies and produce reports, as well as other activities related to ensuring that fundamental rights of individuals are guaranteed. The EIGE agency works to protect gender and equality rights.
