Statement by the Translation and Interpreting Faculty

The Dean's office of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona would like to express its solidarity with the victims and thousands of people who are victims of the war in Ukraine, a war that reminds us of all the armed conflicts in the world, and which we also would like to remind everyone of hereby.

In this event, we invite students, professors, students and colleagues from all parts of the faculty to dedicate their lives to building bridges between cultures and promoting communication between people. This task is now more important than ever. We'd like to thank them for promoting intercultural communication in the world. In particular, the Faculty would like to express its support of students, doctors, PAS and colleagues from Ukraine and Russia in these difficult times. We wish all the best to their families and loved ones.

Our faculty has a long tradition in the study of Russian language and feels that the experience of all the Russian speakers of this war is very important. The winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, Svetlana Aleksandrovna Aleksyevitx, in her book "War doesn't have a woman's face", translated by Miquel Cabal, speaks of the gifts that were fighting the Second World War, and says: "There are no heroes or unbelievable gestures, but there are people who carry out a human activity that is inhuman. And not only to they (the people!) suffer, but also the land, the trees and the trees. All the way to the land with our neighbours. Everything that lives with us on Earth. Everything suffers without saying a word, which is even more terrible. 

We also want to highlight the commitment of our faculty to the poor, to the defence of human rights, to the constant dialogue between cultures, to freedom.  The university community of the UAB is a universe rich in nationalities and cultures, where all the people, following their own condition and origin, feel accepted and appreciated. 

Together we reaffirm our commitment to promote an educational system that always focuses on respect for human values and their fundamental principles.

Деканат факультета перевода Автономного Университета г. Барселоны желает  выразить свою солидарность с погибшими, а также  тысячами раненых и беженцев войны на Украине. Это война, которая связывает нас с вооруженными конфликтами во всем мире, и о которых мы тоже хотим вспомнить в нашем заявлении.

Мы также призываем студентов, преподавателей, сотрудников и коллег нашего университета продолжать посвящать свою жизнь наведению мостов между культурами и укреплению мира. Эта работа сегодня важнее, чем когда-либо. Наша  благодарность им за обеспечение межкультурной коммуникации по всему миру. В эти трудные времена, от всего нашего факультета, мы хотим выразить нашу поддержку и солидарность со студентами, преподавателями, сотрудниками университетов и коллегами Украины и России. Желаем всего хорошего вашим родным и близким.

Наш факультет имеет давнюю традицию преподавания русского языка, и нам очень близки страдания всех русскоязычных людей по вине этой войны. Белорусская писательница, Лауреат Нобелевской премии в области литературы, Светлана Александровна Алексиевич в своей книге «У войны не женское лицо», повествуя о женщинах, воевавших во Второй мировой войне, говорит: «Там нет героев и невероятных подвигов, там есть просто люди, которые заняты нечеловеческим человеческим делом. И страдают там не только они (люди!), но и земля, и птицы, и деревья. Все, кто живут вместе с нами на земле. Страдают они без слов, что ещё страшнее.»

В этом обращении мы хотим отчетливо заявить о приверженности нашего факультета защите мира и прав человека, постоянному диалогу культур и свободе. Сообщество нашего университета богато национальностями и культурами, где все люди, независимо от их положения и происхождения, хотят, чтобы их понимали и ценили.

Мы подтверждаем нашу веру в образование, основанное на уважении к человеческой жизни и неотъемлемым правам человека.
