This year's students come from China, Egypt, Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden, Italy, Poland and Germany. They have chosen the UAB to continue their education onsite, in spite of COVID-19’s travel restrictions.

Adam Tamer, from Cairo, Egypt, has come to the UAB to live the experience of studying abroad and to know more about Catalan culture: “I am really enjoying the programme, the workload is very reasonable, the professors are amazing and they make the classes very interesting".

Classes in a new normal

At Casa Convalescència classrooms, where classes of the Pre-Established programme take place, protocols of prevention and protection against COVID-19 such as social distancing and the use of cover face wear and hand sanitiser are strictly followed. Regarding the content of the courses, although scaled down, students may choose from an attractive selection of subjects within the fields of Business, Economics, Spanish and Middle Eastern cultures, Spanish-Chinese interpreting and Spanish language.

Despite the return to 100% online training during the second half of October due to the temporary COVID-19 restrictions of face-to-face university teaching, students in the programme have not had to miss a single class. To be prepared for possible changes, the Study Abroad team devised a curriculum that would allow for total flexibility of format, either face-to-face, semi-face-to-face or online, thanks to the new virtual teaching platform where students can continue their lessons from anywhere and at their own pace.

Learning and discovering Barcelona

The location of the campus of the Fall 2020 programme in Barcelona, a lively city with so much to offer at a cultural and architectural level, is really appreciated by the students, especially these days without tourist crowds. Nourhan Mamdouh, also from Egypt, who chose the UAB following a friend's recommendation, is very happy to be in our city: “I really enjoy and love living here, people are friendly, every day I discover something new". Like Nourhan and Adam, the rest of students in the programme are ready to make the most of this learning and living experience.
