Spanish Studies PhD student Karina Borísova wins the UAB's "Thesis in 4 Minutes" competition
Karina Borísova, student in the PhD programme in Spanish Studies, has won the first prize of the UAB's 2026 "Thesis in 4 Minutes" competition. She was awarded a cash prize of 800 euros and will represent the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in the final phase of the "Thesis in 4 Minutes" competition, organised by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRI). All travel expenses for the trip to Vic (up to €100), where the final will be held, will also be paid by the UAB.
Karina Borísova is the winner of this year's competition with her presentation on two Argentinian writers, entitled "Borges, Bioy i el nostre mur d’Instagram", in which she used plain and understandable language for a general audience and presented her thesis in a maximum of four minutes.
The second jury prize, worth 500 euros, as well as the public prize, worth 200 euros, went to Maite Ergüin Gamazo, PhD student in Medicine, for her presentation on leukemia: "De la calma a la tempesta: construint ponts contra la leucèmia", in which she clearly explained her research in this area of health.
The Assumpció Català i Poch special mention for the promotion and defence of the Catalan language, endowed with 300 euros, was awarded to Anabel Pérez Real, PhD student in Translation and Intercultural Studies, for her presentation on the role of interpreting, entitled "La veu de l’intèrpret: un instrument essencial per a la comunicació".
The competition was held on 12 May at the UAB School for Doctoral Studies and was broadcast live on the UAB YouTube channel. This ninth edition of the competition featured the participation of ten PhD students, selected by the jury, who presented their research with the aim of bringing scientific and academic knowledge closer to society.
The jury, formed by Assumpció Malgosa, vice-rector for Research; Virginia Luzón, vice-rector for Communication; Jaume Alijotas, lecturer in the Department of Medicine; Albert Casals, lecturer in the Department of Teaching of Musical, Artistic and Corporal Expression; Beatriz Ferrús, director of the School for Doctoral Studies; and Miquel Molist, lecturer in the Department of Prehistory, highlighted the high level of all the presentations and the communicative ability of the participants.
