Sharing aphorisms, learning languages

Aforismes
The 26 September is European Day of Languages, an initiative organised since 2001 by the European Council to promote plurilingualism and language learning. UAB Idiomes is joining the celebrations by demonstrating the linguistic and cultural diversity that exists on the campus. Do you want to join us (see the video!)?

An aphorism is defined as a short sentence or brief utterance used to express a profound and complex idea. It comes from the Greek ἀφορισμός (aphorismós) and means ‘to define’.

The Language Service has put together a collection of aphorisms in different languages. You can find them on this wall and help us to add to them. UAB Idiomes invites all members of the university community to take part in this initiative by sharing aphorisms in different languages via the Language Service Twitter or Facebook.

The activity will be live from 26 September to 3 October to coincide with the European Day for Languages 2014 and is a good opportunity for making the linguistic and cultural diversity on the UAB campus more visible. Just send your aphorism in any language to the Language Service Twitter or Facebook (use the hashtag #aforismesUABIdiomes)

This video shows a sample of the linguistic and cultural diversity on our campus in the form of aphorisms.

Happy Day of Languages!
