"Química Emprèn" conference series continues

As part of the Year of Chemistry, the Department of Chemistry, in collaboration with the Bancaja Chair of Young Entrepreneurs-UAB, has organised a series on chemistry and future innovations in the field entitled "Química emprèn: guanyant futur amb la innovació", addressed mainly to teaching staff and researchers.
The conferences aim to give an innovative view of the business world and knowledge transfer from university to companies by answering questions such as: What role does science play in businesses? Can scientific (academic) results become a profitable economic activity? What does an R&D project consist of when carried out in a company? And, What differences are there between industrial innovation and scientific research projects?
After the first session this past 12 May two more sessions have been programmed for Wednesday 1 June and Thursday 2 June. The first conference on Wednesday will begin at 9:45 am and will be given by Antoni Torrens, Head of External Collaborations and Strategic Alliances at Esteve Laboratories. His speech is entitled "The Role of Chemistry in Discovering New Drugs".
The second conference will take place at 5:30 pm with a speech by Jordi Marquet, Director of UAB Research Park, entitled "Challenges and Opportunities for Scientists Under an Open Innovation Framework".
Conferences on Thursday will include participation of Montserrat Gómez, from the University of Paul Sabatier of Toulouse, with a speech on "Metallic Complexes and Nanoparticules as Catalyst in Ionic Liquid: reactivity and immobilization". At 4 pm Buenaventura Guamis, Director of the Food Technology Plant Special Research Centre (CERPTA), will be talking on the "CERPTA-UAB Experience in CreatingTechnology-Based Companies".
