The "la Caixa" Foundation offers 225 new grants for student wishing to enrol in postgraduate programmes in universities in Spain or abroad.

09/02/2011

The purpose of these grants is to encourage mobility among Spanish students by offering the opportunity to enrol in the best higher education centres and postgraduate programmes available in all fields. The grants were first awarded in 1982. This year the grants will include:

  • 100 grants for those enrolling in master's degree in Spanish universities;
  • 65 for those enrolling in postgraduate programmes in European countries;
  • 45 for postgraduate programmes in the United States;
  • 5 for postgraduate programmes in Canada;
  • and 10 for those wishing to study a postgraduate programme in Asia.

Those wishing to apply for a grant must hold a three-year or four-year degree or other higher qualifications, or be enrolled in their last year of undergraduate studies. They must be citizens of Spain with a good command of the language spoken in the host country. Specific requirements set by each of the countries must also be met.

In the case of those wishing to study in universities of Spain or another European country, the grants will be conferred for programmes beginning in the 2011/12 academic year. Grants for all other universities will be awarded starting in 2012. The length of the grant will depend on the duration of the programme and the amount will depend on the country. All grants cover tuition fees, a fixed amount to help students get settled when they arrive and a monthly allowance for academic material and others. In some cases the grants cover transport fees and, for those travelling to China, the cost of a Mandarin language course.

Deadline for applications for Spanish and European universities is 20 March. In the case of universities in United States or Canada, the deadline is on 2 May. For Asian universities, students have until 5 September to submit their applications.
