The UAB, the Vall d’Hebron Cancer Institute (VHIO) and the Instituto Roche Foundation have jointly organised a seminar entitled “Personalised Precision Medicine, from Theory to Practice”, addressed to university students from the health sciences sector. Attendance is free, but you must sign up first. The seminar will take place from 27 to 29 September at the VHIO's Centre Cellex. Registration now open.

The seminar will allow attendants to discover and delve deeper into the key foundations of the medicine of the future, thanks to the participation of renowned specialists. In this sixth edition (previous editions were held in Madrid, Valencia, Salamanca, Malaga and Pamplona), coordinated by Dr Joan Carles and Dr Isabel Ruiz Camps, head of the Medical Oncology Section and assistant doctor of the Infectious Disease Services, respectively, from the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital and lecturers from the UAB Department of Medicine.

"Personalised Precision Medicine will be one of the pillars of the medicine of the future. During many years, we have interpreted different diseases as alterations at cellelular level; however, in these past few years, we have seen the importance of the stroma sustaining these cells, the interactions occuring between the two, as well as the importance of the cell's micro-environment. This produces complex interactions at different levels, which is what Personalised Precision Medicine aims to elucidate", explains Dr Joan Carles.

Dr Isabel Ruiz Camps indicates that "knowing the multiple applications Personalised Precision Medicine can have is a subject that is interesting, up-to-date and promising for students of all sectors, from oncohaematology to auto-immune diseases and neurology, where it is already being applied thanks to the use of targeted therapies, while other specialisations are only beginning to use it. To that we must add the incorporation of Artificial Intelligence in medicine, which very soon will become part of our clinical practice".

"At the Fundación Instituto Roche we are committed to training future professionals and we are proud of being able to hold one more edition of this seminar. That is why I encourage students of the health sciences to enrol in a seminar which will help them understand the paradigm shift represented by personalised Precision Medicine and complement their academic education in areas that will be key in their future professional career”, says Consuelo Martín de Dios, Managing Director of the Fundación Instituto Roche.

Thus, knowledge of the biological bases of diseases, integrating the clinical and molecular information of each patient, will be determinant in the medicine of the future. For three days, students will have the chance to discover the journey from Molecular Biology to Personalised Precision Medicine, and learn first-hand about the clinical applications for several pathologies such as auto-immune diseases, neurodegenerative diseases and cancer; as well as the role played by pharmacogenetic and pharmacogenomics, advanced therapies such as gene and cell therapy, and artificial intelligence applications in Personalise Precision Medicine.

Attendance is free prior registration at the Fundación Instituto Roche website.

A certificate of attendance will be provided at the end of the seminar to those who request it.
