Pep Duran's 'Retaule laic' on loan at the UAB

11/04/2012
According to an agreement signed with UAB Rector Ana Ripoll, Pep Duran has loaned his work of art and intellectual exploitation rights to the UAB for a period of 15 years.
Duran works with scenography to create projects focused on particular ways of understanding constructions, representations and spaces. "Retaule laic" is an art-essay which exudes the intellectual aesthetical influences on the thoughts and works of the author. It is made up of 54 sandstone slabs with embedded and enamelled reliefs, located on top of a 6.73-metre-high aluminium structure.
The work of Pep Duran (Vilanova i la Geltrú, 1955) mixes reality with fiction when creating scenic constructions. His work has been exhibited in several galleries in Barcelona (Metrònom, Joan Prats, Carles Taché, Alejandro Sales, etc.) and in other European cities, as well as in numerous art centres such as the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona, the Koldo Mitxelena Kulturunea in Sant Sebastián, the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London and in museums of El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama and Mexico. Other works by the artists form part of the MACBA collection, the "la Caixa" Foundation, the Suñol Foundation and the Vila Casas Foundation in Barcelona, as well as in Artium, the Basque Country, and other institutions.
