One more person from Palestine benefits from the #UABRefugi grants
A PhD student from Palestine will join the UAB in the 2025/26 academic year thanks to the #UABRefugi grants. The grants represent a comprehensive support model for refugees and now has been reinforced with a special fund to assist university students currently suffering from the armed conflict and genocide being committed by the Israeli state against the Palestinian population. A total of five people have already benefited from this aid.

The UAB programme is a comprehensive support model since the grants cover not only academic expenses, but also other costs related to materials and transport. The UAB also provides support to refugees, such as in the case of the new PhD student arriving from Palestine and his family, in terms of housing, either by reserving places at the Vila Universitària or by working in coordination with the municipalities surrounding the campus. In addition, the UAB will launch a crowdfunding campaign among the university community to obtain new resources to support extra-academic needs such as legal advice, document translation, etc.
Last year, the UAB awarded some fifty scholarships under the #UABRefugi programme to undergraduate, master's, and PhD students. The main countries of origin of the beneficiaries were Ukraine, Syria, and Palestine. The programme also involves personalised support with the help of student volunteers, in addition to other training and guidance activities. Those accepted into the #UABRefugi programme also receive specialised legal services, psychosocial support, language assistance, and career guidance.
