The walk starts at 2 p.m. from the Plaça Cívica, in front of the Communication Library (Hemeroteca). It will cover almost four kilometres around the outer part of the campus, as far as the Castell de Sant Marçal and the ALBA Synchrotron.

Now that Christmas is over, it is time for the "Migdies al Campus" midday walks around the UAB to start up again. This month's walk will take us further afield than the campus itself again. Close to the campus, just on the other side of the B-30 motorway, are two buildings that are separated physically by only 100 metres but by 900 years in time: the Castell de Sant Marçal (11th century), on a hill between the houses of what once was the small village of Cerdanyola and the Monestir de Sant Cugat, which is now classified as a National Monument, and the ALBA Synchrotron, one of 20 synchotrons in Europe, shaped like a snail shell 140 m. in diameter, and built with one objective in mind: to accelerate particles to near light speeds.

We will start out from the Plaça Cívica and cross the gardened areas of the Eix Central, following the Can Magrans stream. We will go around the new ICTA-ICP building (built in October 2014), pass by the Alfaro columns, cross over the AP-7/ B-30 and find ourselves in a unique setting with its striking buildings: the castle and the ALBA Synchrotron. We will come back onto the campus via the Font del Carme spring and the Faculty of Medicine. We will be covering around four kilometres altogether.
