New network of universities Mediterranean-Pyrenees Euroregion

01/06/2011
Eurocampus was presented in an event on 1 June which included the participation of Antoni Castellà, Secretary for Universities and Research of the Government of Catalonia; Salvador Sefó, General Director for Foreign Affairs of the Government of Catalonia; and Mercè Unzeta, UAB Vice Rector for International Relations.
The platform was created with three objectives: to increase mobility among academic and research staff and students, create a common online campus and strengthen cooperation between universities in social and innovation transfer. Thus collaborations will be established between the universities of Catalonia, Aragon, the Balearic Islands, Languedoc-Roussillon and Midi-Pyrénées.
With the aim of encouraging mobility the universities will look to create new joint undergraduate and master's degrees. The first step in this direction is the joint degree by UAB and Toulouse 1 Capitole in Law and the master's degree in European Integration, where students will eb able to study at both universities.
Eurocampus will also promote the learning of all four languages spoken in the region: Catalan, French, Occitan and Spanish. Future academic collaborations include new programmes, grants for doctoral students with more than one supervisor, and the creation of new Chairs to promote collaborations among teaching and research staff.
The online or virtual campus will be accessible to over half a million students and lecturers. It will include information on all academic programmes offered by universities of the Euroregion, as well as on grants, work placements and other university aspects.
Finally, Eurocampus will promote a closer relationship between university research and the industrial clusters of the Euroregion with the aim of increasing the number of work placements and contact between researchers and nearby businesses and research centres.
