The UAB and the PIMEC Foundation have signed an agreement to promote a language volunteer programme for refugees from Ukraine with the objective of helping them enter the labour market by working in one of the PIMEC's member companies. The agreement was signed by UAB Rector Javier Lafuente, and by PIMEC Foundation's President Josep González, with a starting validity of two years.

The UAB will help members of its university community participate in the programme. PIMEC, Catalonia's association of small and medium-sized companies, will organise the language volunteer programme and provide funding for the insurance and transport costs that may arise in each case.

Catalonia is receiving a large number of refugees arriving from Ukraine and who need help to integrate into society, particularly in terms of learning the language. This programme will be made possible thanks to the fact that people within the UAB's university community speak Ruswsian and Ukrainian and can help with this integration process.

The initiative forms part of other initiatives launched by the UAB with the aim of helping to cover the needs of those caught in the midst of the conflict in Ukraine, such as the debates on peace entitled "La UAB en favor de la pau", which aimed to manifest the UAB's rejection to the current military aggressions, and the different support actions to help those affected by the war.
