New Immigration and Law on debate by UAB and UC Berkeley School of Law

On Thursday, 11 June, the UAB Faculty of Law and the Robbins Collection of UC Berkeley's School of Law will hold the first workshop on comparative law entitled "New Immigration and Law: Comparative Perspectives" which will serve to debate the new legal challenges posed by immigration in the US and in Europe. The event will be presided by Josep Maria de Dios, Dean of the Faculty of Law, and coordinated by lecturers Laurent Mayali (UC Berkeley) and Antonio Serrano González (Department of Public Law and Legal History Studies).

During this day, lecturers and professors of the three legal departments at UAB will be studying, from a comparative approach with their Californian counterparts, the new legal problems and challenges posed by immigration today, as well as the application and reform of legal frameworks, EU policies and African immigration, social and work integration, impacts on family and women's rights, and climate change.

The programme will be split into three sessions:

 9:45-11:30 The Mediterranean as Border
11:45-13:15 New Actors, New Settings, New Contexts
14:45-15:45 The Integration of Immigrants in Western Societies: The Rights of Women
15:45- 16:45 Final Discussion

The workshop will take place at Torre Vila-Puig, the new headquarters of the Friends of the UAB Association located near Hotel Campus.
