New Barcelona-Madrid dialogues organised by A4U

12/11/2012
Participating will be Carmen Beviá, professor in Economics at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona; Jesús Silva, professor in Criminal Law at Universitat Pompeu Fabra and lawyer; Carlos Thiebaut, professor in Philosophy at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and Fernando Vallespín, professor in Political Sciences and Administration at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
Bearing in mind our increasingly complex, global and interconnected environment, the debate will focus on the need to use a variety of approaches to gain knowledge of social mechanisms. This approach, which should be cross-curricular, plural and integrated, is what will permit facing new challenges and generating an area in which economic welfare and public freedoms are possible.
The Alliance of 4 Universities (A4U) is a strategic agreement between the public universities Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Carlos III de Madrid and Universitat Pompeu Fabra. A4U was created in 2008 with the mission of encouraging mobility between lecturing and research staff, developing academic projects and promoting the international projection of these four universities.
This debate forms part of the "Barcelona-Madrid Dialogues", two of which were already organised last year in Barcelona and Madrid on the future of the university system in Spain. The debates were attended by the rectors of all four universities and were moderated by journalist Iñaki Gabilondo.
