The biomedical sector represents an important asset for the Spanish economy. According to the OECD, after the US, Spain is the country to invest the highest percentage of GDP in public investment of biomedical R&D&I. ALINNSA has been created with the aim of strengthening this sector and increasing its international visibility.
ALINNSA activities will be coordinated by the Carlos III Health Institute, a public research organisation which operates under the authority of the Ministry for Science and Innovation. The adherence document was signed on behalf of the university sector, in addition to UAB, by Federico Gutiérrez Solana, President of the Conference of Spanish University Rectors (CRUE).
ALINNSA members also include the Centre for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI), the National Institute of Agrarian and Food Research and Technology (INIA), the Basque Government, several private businesses of the sector and the employers' associations Asebio, Farmaindustria, Fenin and Fiab. The alliance will soon include other public and private members of the sector.
