Medicine at the UAB receives AQU seal of excellence

The bachelor's degree in Medicine was evaluated by the Agency for the Quality of the Catalan University System (AQU) and awarded a seal of excellence, becoming one of the two medical degrees in Catalonia to receive this seal.

Medicine at the UAB is one of the two medical degrees offered in Catalonia which has obtained a seal of excellence by the Agency for the Quality of the Catalan University System (AQU).

The AQU's accreditation process which ensures the quality and assessment of the Catalan university system evaluated the quality of the academic programme, the validity of its information, the efficacy of its internal quality guarantee system, the suitability of lecturers, the efficacy of learning-support systems and the quality of the results of the training programme of the UAB bachelor's degree in Medicine. The bachelor's degree received the highest mark available, a seal of excellence.

As strong points and good practices of the degree in Medicine at the UAB, the AQU highlights a faculty of lecturers notably involved in the teaching and improvement of the academic results of students and their relevant interactions with them.

Another strong point is the accessibility of students to contact lecturers and vice versa, so that "students are in permanent contact with health professionals and lecturers can assess the quality of each student's learning process close up", according to the final AQU report.

In the area of good practices, AQU highlights the "Consell de curs" as a positive coordination element. The organisms hiring UAB graduates positively value the training they have received at their centre. Another strong point is the large number of institutions involved in offering tutorials for the Bachelor's Degree Final Project and practical sessions. The report also makes specific mention of the quality of the Library Service.

This process includes the visit of a committee formed by experts and quality technicians who, upon visiting the Faculty of Medicine in March, assess different aspects and pointed out these strong points in their assessment report.

Other degrees awarded seals of excellence
All UAB degrees have an AQU seal of approval. In addition to Medicine, seven more degrees have a seal of excellence: Veterinary Medicine, Business Management and Administration, Business and Economics, Politics and Public Administration, Sociology, Archaeology and Social and Cultural Anthropology. Another 25 official master's degrees offered at the UAB also have the highest qualification awarded by the agency.

The degree in Medicine at the UAB also stands out form the good results obtained by students in their national medical residency exam (MIR). It is one of the universities in Spain with the highest number of students who pass this exam.
