Margarita Arboix joins the Royal Academy of Pharmacy

UAB Rector Margarita Arboix was appointed Corresponding Academic Member of the Royal Academy of Pharmacy of Catalonia on 12 June, in a ceremony which took place at the conference hall of its institution in Barcelona. Arboix, professor in pharmacology, gave an acceptance speech entitled "Antimicrobial Resistance: Vision From the World of Veterinary Medicine". Representing the academy, Arboix was presented by Rosa Núria Aleixandre, Numerary Academic and Director of the ICS-Girona Clinical Lab.

The Royal Academy of Pharmacy of Catalonia, founded in 1944 as the Barcelona branch of the Royal Academy of Pharmacy of Madrid, aims to "promote the study and research of the pharmaceutical sciences and act as a consulting organ to the state and local administrations in issues that are of their competence". The institution also organises scientific courses and meetings, compules data on the pharmaceutical sciences and edits the journal Revista de la Reial Acadèmia de Farmàcia de Catalunya, among many other activities.

Arboix holds a PhD in biology and in 1976 she became a faculty member at the Department of Pharmacology of the UAB Faculty of Medicine. Since 1985 she has lectured in veterinary studies. She was deputy dean and dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and director of the Department of Pharmacology, Therapeutics and Toxicology. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the European Association of Advanced Veterinary Studies and was also Deputy Director of Veterinary Medicines of the Spanish Agency for Drugs and Health Products, Director of Barcelona Regional Health Services and General Director of Agriculture and Livestock Resources of the Ministry for the Environment, Rural and Marine Areas. She is Rector of the UAB since 6 June 2016.
